5 SEO Tips that You Can’t Forget

Jul 26, 2019

We’ve covered Search Engine Optimization (SEO) on this blog before. We talk about it a lot, because it is so important your your website and company. To review, according to Moz.com, SEO “is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results.” There are many factors that play into SEO, including keywords, pages, and users. This big topic changes frequently as well. Google updates how it ranks websites to keep up with how users use the web. The top updates for 2019 SEO can be found in this blog post. Read on for 5 SEO tips that you can’t forget.

5 SEO Tips that You Can’t Forget

1. Optimize your site for mobile users.

As updated in 2019, Google really values mobile-friendly versions of websites. This makes sense if we think about how much we’re all on our phones. I certainly use my phone more often than I use a computer. According to statistics, up to 70% of website traffic is on mobile devices. A mobile-friendly website means that this 70% of traffic can easily use your website. Mobile optimization improves both your traffic flow and your SEO.

2. Keep your pages updated.

Crawlers can tell if you content is fresh or old. To keep your pages fresh, conduct keyword research and implement that data on your website. See what your audience is searching for and craft your content to reflect that. In addition, make sure to be creating content consistently. This will end up keeping your site fresh, as it will put new and relevant information on your site. In addition, from a visitor’s perspective, a site with current information is more credible than one with only old information.

3. Remember humans.

When working with SEO, it is important to remember that your primary audience still is humans—real people who will be visiting,  reading, and interacting with your site. Sure, your site will be crawled by bots for your rankings. However, ultimately, real people are your target audience. These real people won’t find your site without improved SEO, however. Choosing keywords that improve your SEO will eventually improve your interaction with humans because more relevant traffic will land on your site. Reaching your SEO goals help more people see your website and content.

4. Build internal links thoughtfully.

When working on the links from your homepage to other pages on your site, work with how it will affect your page rankings. The number of links leading to pages impacts how important the page is on your site (page authority). When your site is crawled, the balance of internal linking comes into play. 5. Keep voice-searching in mind.

In recent years, and continuing to today, the frequency of voice-searching is growing. With Siri, Alexa, smart watches, and other similar systems, more and more people are searching by talking into their devices. According to a study done by OC&C Strategy Consultants, 55% of households are expected to own smart speaker devices by 2022. When we speak, we use different words and syntax than when we type. This in turn affects keyword and search queries. Longer sentences and more conversational syntax will be more frequent in searches. To brainstorm search keywords that voice searchers are using—try it out yourself. Speak out loud questions you might Google, ways you might describe things you want to find online, or things you might shout to Alexa in the other room when you want to Google without getting off the couch. Utilizing these casual phrases and words like “how,” “why,” and “what” really can improve your voice-searching metrics.
