Let’s get into some of the do’s and don’t’s of affiliate marketing, so that you have a better understanding of how you can have a profitable experience.

The Do’s and Don’t’s of Affiliate Marketing: Your Path to Success

Do: Study click through rates (CTR)

Do's and Don't's of Affiliate Marketing - RedMoxy CommunicationsWhen you are investing in your company, be sure that you are investing in the right places. Know which topics are most popular and which pages have gotten the most views. You aren’t going to make much if you stick your affiliate links at the bottom of a page that has a really high bounce rate. Study your analytics. Find out what gets people to stay on your page, and use that to your advantage!

Don’t: Drop links at the bottom of pages

Be intentional about what you are doing. People aren’t going to take your links seriously if you aren’t explaining what they are or aren’t actively sharing your experience with the products in the links. If the post isn’t related to your product, don’t drop your link there. It is just going to look like a scam or a typo.

Don’t: Lie about or exaggerate your feelings about a product

You may be able to make a lot of money in a short while from raving about a product, but in the end you are going to destroy your credibility. To put it bluntly, it just isn’t worth it to be dishonest. People talk, and you aren’t going to be able to get away with lying. Once one person figures out you’re a scam, you’re done. So, just don’t be a scam. Then everyone is happy. True, it may take longer to build up that passive income, but in the long-run it will be much healthier for your business.

Do: Share your honest opinion

See yourself as a resource for others. If you were going to invest in a product, you’d want someone to tell you if it was worth it or not. So, do that for others. Focus on making the best, most thorough review that ever there was on the world wide web. That way, people are going to come to your site for the most information, and you get more views and potentially, more money. You can even create a Resource page with all your affiliate products so people can find your reviews all in one place.

Don’t: Copy and paste content

You are really going to want to focus on being genuine, and if you can’t be, then affiliate marketing isn’t for you. If you don’t know what to say about a product, then maybe that product isn’t the right one for you to work with.

Do: Focus on benefits over features

In marketing, we often talk about benefits vs features. You can use these principles when you are promoting your affiliate links, too. Think of the values that correspond to the product you are marketing. That is why people are going to purchase it. For the benefits.

Don’t: Neglect putting affiliate links into your social media posts

Affiliate links aren’t just for blogging. If you have an engaging fan base, be sure that you are sharing your favorite resources with them, too. People can make purchases from a social post as easily as they can from a blog post.

Do: Start an email list

If don’t already have an email list, it is crucial that you start one asap. An email list is one of the best ways that you can reach all your qualified leads at once.
